Overview

In this day tour from Kolkata, we will visit the residence of two of the greatest sons of Bengal- Netaji Subash Chandra Bose the revolutionary freedom fighter and Rabindranath Tagore the national poet. We will also explore a marble Palace built by Raja Rajendra Mullick, one of the wealthiest merchants of Kolkata in the 19th century. What To Expect

The legends tour in Kolkata begins at Jarosankho, the ancestral home of the Tagore family. It was built in the 18th century by Dwarkanath Tagore, the grandfather of India’s national poet, Rabindranath Tagore. We get to see a great collection of paintings, books, photographs and manuscripts of Tagore and other 19th-century personalities. Tagore’s life is brought alive here through Paintings, discs, journals, tapes, records and books.

Marble Palace Kolkata
The Marble Palace is a testimony to the spirit of grandeur and extravagance of 19th Century Calcutta. It was Built in 1835 by Raja Rajendra Mullick, one of the wealthiest merchants of his time and an art and antique connoisseur. The experience includes a variety of statues, a pond with a stone fountain featuring mermen and mermaids, a zoo and a rock garden. It is a great place to savour the traditional Bengali style of architecture with its open courtyards.

Netaji Bhawan
The legends tour in Kolkata ends at Netaji Bhavan, the residence of the great revolutionary leader Subhas Chandra Bose. Netaji was a rare freedom fighter who believed that the British had to be fought with violence and aligned with Germany and Japan during the World War II in order to win Independence for India. Netaji Bhavan was built in 1909 by his father Janakinath Bose and this house was the centre of political activities for Indian freedom fighters. Two of the best things to see here is the staircase and the car used by him for his secret departure from Kolkata.
